Roof truss quality control

Quality control is one of the most important structures to have in place in any business, as it measures – and helps to ensure – the standard of the manufactured product to specification. At LCP Roofing, we take pride in everything we do, which is why it is of the utmost importance for us to ensure the highest quality end product.

Our trusses exit the factory with the South African Technical Auditing Service (SATAS) quality certified fabricator mark, ensuring that the highest standards are applied in our manufacturing process. Furthermore, it remains our responsibility to ensure that the client receives the very same quality product for their roof, so every truss that leaves the factory is thoroughly inspected for any defects that may have occurred during manufacturing; these are dealt with immediately.

After successful quality inspection, our trusses are moved to a location outside of the factory, where they are carefully stacked on top of one another on flat grounding, which helps to keep them straight. Our specially designed roof truss trailers are at the ready to transport the trusses to site and with the trailers being adjustable, they can hold the roof trusses firmly and in a safe position to ensure no damage occurs to the trusses during transportation. Before loading starts, a trained LCP Roofing employee adjusts the trailer to suit the truss size and angle.

When different size trusses need to be loaded, careful planning has to be done. The trusses need to be loaded evenly so that their weight doesn’t affect the movement of the vehicle on the road. Once the trusses are loaded, they are then inspected for any damage or defects. A checklist is used to ensure that necessary material has been loaded. Loaders then carefully tighten the timber with belts to ensure safe and secure transport.

LCP Roofing sales representatives always make the client aware of when the truss delivery will take place. From the point of delivery, it is very important that the site has flat open grounding for the trusses to be stored prior to erection. LCP Roofing’s delivery vehicle, which is driven as close to the offloading area as possible, is then carefully offloaded as the loaders untie the trusses on the trailer and inspect for any damage that may have occurred during transport. The trusses are stacked on top of one another once more to help prevent the timber from bending. The client must ensure that there is no building rubble or site movements that can damage the timber. This process helps to keep the trusses in the best possible condition for the carpenters to erect.
